10 people wept and wondered
why nothing had yet been done.
9 approached the constables
and asked if THEY had lost a son.
8 began to disperse the crowd
and promised justice for the ten,
7 cried out "This would not be--
it could have been prevented THEN!"
6 were in the precinct now,
late at night with files spread
5 of these with priors may have motive
to want a young man dead.
4 agreed, "This is the one."
And drove with sirens wailing loud
3 ran up the building stairs,
guns drawn without a doubt.
2 knocked on the door--
announced the reason for this claim
1 jumped from the 14th floor
and the 10 could sleep again.

I don't usually write poetry, but I had an idea involving a countdown and tragedy. Comments are most welcome and encouraged.
